Day 63: Visiting Street Child Projects

Today I followed Lamin, a Street Child voluntary social worker to visit some of his cases. I have heard some very sad and harrowing tales of sowing, loss, and sadness.

The first step in helping the children who have lost their patents to Ebola is to simply visit them on a weekly basis and try to get them to look forward in a positive manner rather than to look back at what has happened. Next is immediate relief of hardship such as providing food and shelter. Next is rebuilding; for this Street Child give business development grants to the family that now cares for the child.

Sometimes it is an older child that becomes the ‘parent’ for the younger children in the family. I met one 16 year old girl who was the sole carer and breadwinner for her younger brother.

These are heart wrenching stories of people who have suffered a lot. 10 years ago there was a war raging in this country, now many thousands of people have died from a virus. Now Ebola has nearly gone, it is time to rebuild. For that they need or help so please use the donate link on my home page.
